How to Maintain Your Segway Navimow: What You Need to Know

By Ballard Power Works

If you’re considering a Segway Navimow, or already own one, the good news is that these robotic mowers are designed to be low-maintenance. But low-maintenance doesn’t mean no maintenance.

Keeping your mower clean, sharp, and stored properly is key to long-term performance. The good news? Most of it is quick, easy, and guided directly by the Navimow app. We’ve even made a YouTube video on how to change the blades — it’s that simple.

Here’s what you need to know to keep your Navimow running like new.

Blade Replacement: The Most Important Task

Blades are the workhorse of your robotic mower. Over time, they dull, bend, or collect buildup, and when that happens, cut quality drops. We recommend replacing all six blades every 1 to 2 months, depending on your lawn size and conditions.

Pro Tip: The Navimow X Series comes with three extra boxes of blades right out of the box.

Signs It’s Time to Replace Blades:

  • You notice patches of uncut grass
  • The mower sounds strained or uneven
  • The app notifies you (yes, it tracks blade usage!)

Changing blades only takes a few minutes. Watch our YouTube walkthrough or follow the simple steps in the app. Always use gloves, power off the mower, and replace all screws and blades together.

Keep It Clean: Monthly Wash-Downs

Just like a car, your mower performs better when it’s clean. We recommend hosing it off once a month to remove grass buildup, especially from:

  • Blades and undercarriage
  • Camera lenses
  • Wheels and treads
  • Charging contacts

The X3 series can even handle high-pressure washing, but for most models, a regular garden hose does the trick.

Cleaning Tips:

  • Avoid harsh chemicals like alcohol or gasoline
  • Use a soft brush or cloth for sensitive areas
  • Keep the lens and sensors free of mud or debris

Check the Battery Contacts and Charging Port

Every 6 to 8 weeks, take a look at the battery contacts and charging pins. Dirt and grass buildup can affect charging performance or stop the mower from docking properly.

A quick wipe with a dry cloth or compressed air is all it takes.

Update the Software (It’s Easier Than You Think)

Segway continuously improves performance and safety through OTA (Over-The-Air) updates. These are easy to install using the Navimow app.

Check for updates monthly and install when prompted to ensure you’re getting the best possible performance.

Don’t Forget Seasonal Maintenance — Especially in Wisconsin

If you live in a colder climate like we do, you can’t just leave your mower out all winter.

Here’s what we recommend before the snow falls:

  • Clean the entire mower thoroughly
  • Charge the battery to around 50%
  • Store indoors in a cool, dry, frost-free place
  • Check the charge mid-winter and top off if needed

Bonus: We Offer Winter Storage and Service

Let us handle it for you. We’ll clean, inspect, store, and prepare your mower for spring so it’s ready to go the moment the grass starts growing.

Weekly Quick-Check List

Here’s a simple routine we suggest for most homeowners:

  • ✅ Wipe down mower and check for debris
  • ✅ Check blade wear
  • ✅ Inspect charging area
  • ✅ Confirm docking and charging status
  • ✅ Walk the lawn for large branches or new obstacles

Why It Matters

Maintaining your Navimow ensures:

  • A consistent, clean cut
  • Longer equipment life
  • Fewer errors or interruptions
  • Better battery performance
  • A lawn that always looks freshly mowed
