Wondering How Long It Takes? You’re Asking the Wrong Question.
I get asked this question a lot:
“How long does it take the robot mower to mow your lawn?”
But here’s the thing—I’m not the one mowing the lawn anymore. So who cares?
I have roughly a one-acre property with a pool, landscaping features, and plenty of obstacles for the mower to navigate. I used to be lucky if I got the whole thing mowed once a week. My neighbors, many of whom are retired, would cruise around on their shiny riding mowers every couple of days. Their lawns looked perfect. Mine? Not so much. Big clumps of grass, uneven patches, and constantly playing catch-up.
That all changed when I got the Segway Navimow.
My Mowing Schedule (Without Doing Anything)
Here’s how I’ve set it up using zones:
- Sunday – Front yard (Zone 1 & 2)
- Monday – Backyard (Zone 3 & 4)
- Tuesday – Rest day
- Wednesday – Front yard again
- Thursday – Backyard again
- Friday & Saturday – Rest days
I also have one extra zone in the back that I mow manually when it’s not flooded. Other than that, the Navimow handles everything on its own.
I don’t know exactly how long it takes to mow the lawn start to finish—if I had to guess, maybe 12 hours total throughout the week. But that’s not really the point. The mower works in sessions, recharges when needed, and quietly does its thing while I’m living my life.
Always Freshly Mowed
Because the Navimow is out there a few days each week, my lawn always looks freshly mowed. It’s kept short, clean, and healthy. No more giant clumps of overgrown grass. No more scrambling to squeeze in a mow before rain. And no more comparing my overgrown yard to the pristine ones across the street.
It even creates straight, professional-looking lines that I could never manage myself. It changes mowing patterns regularly, so I don’t get the same old wheel marks. It honestly looks like a professional landscaping crew came by every other day.
Less Fuel. Less Noise. Less Time.
Since switching, I haven’t had to run to the gas station for mower fuel—not once. That’s two or three fewer errands every month and less money spent on gas.
I still weed-whip now and then, but even that has gotten easier. The Navimow gets way closer to edges than my riding mower ever could, so I usually only have to do a quick touch-up every two weeks.
It Gets Smarter Over Time
At first, I noticed a few missed spots. But after a couple of weeks, the mower figured it out. Now it hits everything. Give it time to learn your lawn, and you’ll be impressed with how much better it gets.
But Really—How Long Does It Take?
If you’re still hung up on how long the mower takes to mow based on lawn size, here’s a rough estimate. Just remember—these are ballpark numbers.
Factors like the number of obstacles (trees, landscaping, fences), slope (hills or ditches), and the model of mower you choose (larger drive motors mow faster) will all affect how long it takes. Charging time is also a major factor. My estimate of 12 hours to mow my 1-acre yard includes the time it spends recharging between sessions.
That said, here’s a general idea based on 8 hours per acre:
Lawn Size (Acres) | Estimated Time to Mow (Including Charging) |
0.25 acres | 2 hours |
0.5 acres | 4 hours |
0.75 acres | 6 hours |
1 acre | 8 hours |
1.25 acres | 10 hours |
1.5 acres | 12 hours |
1.75 acres | 14 hours |
2 acres | 16 hours |
2.25 acres | 18 hours |
2.5 acres | 20 hours |
Final Thought
So no, I can’t really tell you how long it takes to mow my lawn.
But I can tell you this: My lawn always looks great, and I don’t have to lift a finger. That’s the real win.
If you’re tired of spending your weekends chasing grass clippings, it’s time to let a robot handle it.
